Richard Quentin Manns, 75, of Roselyn Drive, died Monday at home of cancer.
Born in Pittsfield July 4, 1931, son of Walter and Florence Trumbull Manns, he attended St. Joseph's Middle School and was a 1949 graduate of St. Joseph's High School.
He received a bachelor's degree in economics from Sienna College in 1960 and took several graduate courses in education at MCLA in North Adams.
He served in the U.S. Navy in the Korean War from 1953 until 1955, when he received an honorable discharge as a physician's assistant.
He was employed as a reading teacher in the Pittsfield Public Schools from 1961 until his retirement in February 1994. He also had worked summers and weekends in various capacities at Eastover Resort in Lenox from the time it opened in 1949 until last year.
Mr. Manns enjoyed music and played the organ and several other instruments. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing, family trips to New Hampshire and collecting antiques, especially those connected to local history.
He and his wife, the former Anne Marie Roche, were married Sept. 10, 1960, at St. Theresa's Church in Pittsfield. She died Feb. 22, 1990.
He is survived by two daughters, AnneMarie Manns and Sharon L. Manns, both of Pittsfield; and three granddaughters.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral of Mr. Richard Q. Manns, who died Monday, April 9, 2007, will be Thursday morning from the ROCHE FUNERAL HOME followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Mark's Church in Pittsfield celebrated by the Rev. John Salatino, pastor.
Burial will follow in St. Ann's Cemetery in Lenox. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the funeral home, 120 Main St., Lenox, MA 01240.
Mr. Manns is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, Deanna and Sarah Manns, and Marquesa Connolly; his sons-in-law, Dean Platz and Kevin Connolly; his sister-in-law Marlee Manns; and several nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and grand-nephews. He also was predeceased by his brother, Marvin Manns.
