Irene Hopkins Buck

Irene Hopkins Buck, 94, formerly of Centennial Avenue, died Sunday at Renaissance Manor in Westfield, where she had resided since August 2004.

Born in Dalton on June 1, 1912, daughter of Arthur and Theresa Munch Fillio, she was educated in local schools and resided in Dalton for 61 years. Before that, she lived in Vermont for many years.

A homemaker, Mrs. Buck was employed by Crane & Co. during the 1940s.

She was a communicant of St. Agnes' Church and enjoyed gardening, traveling, cooking and baking.

Her first husband, Raymond Hopkins, whom she married Oct. 4, 1930, died Oct. 20, 1962.

She and her husband, Roger Buck, were married Dec. 27, 1969. He died Dec. 1, 1996.

She leaves four sons, Edwin R. Hopkins of Belton, Mo., Norman R. Hopkins of Pittsfield, David C. Hopkins of Dalton and Francis C. Hopkins of Westfield; two daughters, Bernice B. Steele and Sandra B. Hopkins, both of Dalton; two stepsons; Ray Buck of Dalton and Floyd Buck of Springfield, Vt.; two stepdaughters, Linda Spur of the state of Maine and June Towle of Cavendish, Maine; two brothers, George K. Fillio of Dalton and John Fillio of Hinsdale; a sister, Mary Hogan of Pittsfield; 19 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Two sons, Walter A. Hopkins and George B. Hopkins, are deceased.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Irene Hopkins Buck, who died Sunday, April 1, 2007, will be Thursday at 9:15 a.m. from DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME in Dalton, with a Libera Service at 10 a.m. at St. Agnes' Church in Dalton celebrated by the Rev. Christopher Malatesta, pastor.

Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Calling hours will be tomorrow from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Buck also was predeceased by four brothers, a sister, two grandsons, a granddaughter, two great-grandsons and a great-granddaughter.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Renaissance Manor Activities Fund, in care of the funeral home, 890 Main St., Dalton, MA 01226. She enjoyed being with her family.
