Francesca D'Acquisto Dill, 83, of 96 Anthony Road, died Friday at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Naples, Italy, on Sept. 20, 1923, daughter of Salvatore and Ines D'Acquisto, she attended Italian schools before coming to the United States in 1946, and settling in Dalton.
During World War II, in Naples, she was involved with the United States Army Air Corps as a communications specialist, with the code name "Spinner."
From 1968 until 1972 she was a clothing buyer for the former Southwick Dress Shop on South Street in Pittsfield. She was also editor for many years for the former Buttenheim Publishing Co. in Pittsfield.
Mrs. Dill was a communicant of St. Agnes Church.
She was a world traveler, and enjoyed cooking, cake decorating, needlework and crafts. She had been involved with the former Extension Services in Dalton and Pittsfield for many years.
She married Garvey Roy Dill on June 12, 1945 in Naples, while wearing a wedding gown she made from parachute silk. Mr. Dill died May 30, 1997.
She leaves a son, Gary R. Dill of Dalton; a daughter, Sandra L. Dill of Gloucester; a brother, Sandro D'Acquisto of Naples; and a sister, Erminia Morace of Toronto.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Francesca D'Acquisto Dill, who died on Friday, March 23, 2007, will be held on Monday, April 2, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Agnes Church, Dalton, celebrated by the Rev. Christopher Malatesta, pastor.
Burial will be private at Ashuelot Cemetery in Dalton. There are no calling hours. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts be made to the Beckman Macular Research Center of the Doheny Eye Institute, Los Angeles, in care of DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME, 890 East Main St., Dalton, MA 01226, which is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Dill also leaves a daughter-in-law, Sherry Goodkowsky.
