Anna A. Croughwell

Anna A. Croughwell, 91, of 334 North St., died Saturday at the home of her granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Linda and David Plant, where she had been living for two years due to a stroke.

Born in Dalton of Jan. 28, 1916, daughter of William A. and Lu-Lu Brooks Fitch, she was a 1934 graduate of Dalton High School.

Ms. Croughwell was employed as a plater at Crane & Co. in Dalton. She lived in Lenox for approximately 50 years, most well-known as a cook at Wendover Dairy Bar and at the Heritage House.

She enjoyed puzzles, cooking, reading, walking around town and gardening. She was famous for her jokes and huge tomatoes.

She was married to Arthur Croughwell, who died in 1947.

Besides her granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Ms. Croughwell leaves a daughter, Jean Alibozek of Pittsfield; six other grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren.

A daughter, Bernice Squires, died Feb. 18, 2006.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Ms. Croughwell, who died Saturday, March 17, 2007, leaves seven grandchildren, Linda Plant of Dalton, with whom she resided, Stephen Tatro of Dalton, Jeannie Rist, Glenna Pierce and Nelson Charter Jr., all of Pittsfield; Colleen Pirzl of Lanesborough and Lisa Sutton of Lenox. Anna has also left her most treasured possession, her beloved dog, Tassie.

She also leaves several nieces and nephews. Her funeral will be held tomorrow at 11 a.m. From ROCHE FUNERAL HOME in Lenox, celebrated by the Rev. William Furey of Berkshire Chapel in Lanesborough. Burial will follow in Main Street Cemetery, Dalton.

Calling hours at the funeral home will be tomorrow morning at 10. In lieu of flowers, donations in Anna's memory may be made to the American Heart Association or Berkshire Humane Society in care of the funeral home, 120 Main St., Lenox, MA 01240.
