William Russell Stokes

William Russell Stokes, 81, of Curtis Manor, formerly of 40 Concord Parkway, died Friday at Berkshire Medical Center.
He had resided at Curtis Manor for the past four years.
Born in Pittsfield on Oct. 23, 1925, son of Lloyd A. Stokes Sr. and Maude Andrews Stokes, he was a 1944 graduate of Pittsfield High School and a 1945 graduate of Berkshire Business College.
Mr. Stokes was employed by McCormick & Toole Insurance Co. as the comptroller and assistant treasurer from 1967 until his retirement in 1991. Previously, he was employed by Ferry Lumber Co. from 1945 to 1967 as a bookkeeper.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Pittsfield.
Mr. Stokes leaves his sister-in-law, Ruth Stokes of Sunset City, Fla.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Graveside services for William Russell Stokes, who died Friday, March 2, 2007, will be held tomorrow in Pittsfield Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Levi Davenport, pastor of the Windsor Congregational Church. Friends are asked to meet inside the cemetery gates at 12:45 p.m.
There will be no calling hours. He leaves a buddy, Joey Szczepaniak, whom he met through the Craneville School Buddy Program at Curtis Manor. A sister, Dorothy S. Lepisto, died in December, and a brother, Lloyd A. Stokes Jr., died in 2006. Donations may be made in his memory to the Curtis Manor Retirement Home in Dalton, care of the WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 220 East St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
