John Ashton Frankenberg

John Ashton Frankenberg, 70, of 147 Patricia Ave., died Sunday at home.
Born in Boston on Jan. 19, 1937, son of Thomas Lloyd and Dorothy Rollins Frankenberg, he graduated from Needham High School in 1954. He attended Middlebury (Vt.) College, where he majored in Russian, graduating in 1962.
He served in the Army during peacetime in Germany as a linguist.
Mr. Frankenberg was employed as a professional linguist and analyst for the U.S. Department of Defense for 44 years. After retiring in January 2003, he and his wife settled in Dalton.
A member of the Dalton Piano Trio, Mr. Frankenberg accompanied many amateur theater groups and aspiring vocalists and was looking forward to performing in "A Chorus Line" in May. He performed in dozens of musicals and served on the staff of Peabody Preparatory Institute in the theater arts training program.
He and his wife, Louise Hurt Frankenberg, were married in 1961 at First Church of Christ, Congregational, in Pittsfield.
Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Mark Ashton Frankenberg, of St. Petersburg, Fla.; two daughters, Suzanne Jean Brown of Rochester, N.Y., and Karen Frankenberg Lipovsky of Blacksburg, Va.; a sister, Helen Joan Schneider of Glendale, Md.; and two grandsons.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A memorial service to celebrate the life of John Ashton Frankenberg, who died Sunday, Feb. 4, 2007, will take place tomorrow at 11 a.m. at BARTLETT-WELLINGTON FUNERAL SERVICE, 525 Main St., Dalton. At the request of Mr. Frankenberg, he will be cremated; there are no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Berkshire Humane Society, 214 Barker Road, Pittsfield, MA 01201. Mr. Frankenberg leaves his wife, whom he met at Middlebury College. The couple were married at First Church of Christ, Congregational, where Mrs. Frankenberg's family had been members for generations.
He also leaves two grandsons, Alexander Ashton Brown of Rochester, N.Y., and Benjamin Ashton Frankenberg of Ocala, Fla.; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He is predeceased by his brother, T. Stephen Frankenberg.
