Albert W. "Red" Turner

Albert W. "Red" Turner, 90, of 40 Sunset Ave., a former longtime resident of 370 East St., died Saturday at Kimball Farms Nursing Care Center, where he had been a patient since May 4.
Born in Pittsfield on Sept. 21, 1916, son of Albert W. and Mary Agnes Corey Turner, he was a 1935 graduate of St. Joseph's High School.
An Army veteran of World War II, he served from May 21, 1943, to March 11, 1946, and was honorably discharged with the rank of sergeant.
Mr. Turner was employed by Beloit-Jones Co. in Dalton as a fabricator for 29 years, retiring in 1980. Prior to the war, he worked at General Electric Co. as a welder. Throughout much of his life, he was a licensed oil burner and air-conditioning technician.
He was a member of the Stickles-Turnure and the Dalton Veterans of Foreign Wars posts. He enjoyed electronics, dancing and carpentry.
His wife, the former Barbara L. Brown, whom he married July 17, 1946, at St. Mary's in Pittsfield, died May 18, 1986.
He leaves a daughter, Beverly M. Taylor of Los Alamos, N.M.; three sons, William K. Turner of Middleborough, Stephen G. Turner of Lenox and Dennis C. Turner of Dalton; seven grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Mr. Albert W. "Red" Turner, who died Dec. 16, 2006, also leaves his loving grandchildren, Jennifer and Karen Taylor, Courtney L., Kara J., Laura, Christopher and Kevin Turner, and his great-granddaughter, Bethany.
He was predeceased by his companion of 15 years, Wanda Silbor. The funeral will be private and burial will be at the convenience of the family.
There will be no calling hours. Donations in Mr. Turner's memory may be made to Alzheimer's Association, Massachusetts chapter, or to HospiceCare in the Berkshires, both in care of ROCHE FUNERAL HOME, 120 Main St., Lenox, MA 01240.
