William R. Marco Sr.

William R. Marco Sr., 66, of River Run Apartments, formerly of Maple Street, died yesterday at home.
Born in Adams on Nov. 10, 1939, son of Raymond W. and Lillian Koch Marco, he attended schools in Adams and Dalton and received a General Equivalency Diploma. He also attended Berkshire Community College.
He served in the Army from 1956 to 1957 and was assigned to an ammunition depot in France.
Mr. Marco owned and operated Best Way Maintenance, a commercial cleaning service. Previously, he was employed by Sears, Roebuck & Co. as an appliance repair technician and by the former Zayre department store as a salesman. He also worked at Central Radio and at the former Jack and Harry's, both in North Adams.
He enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, playing cribbage and watching trains.
His wife, the former Dolores M. DeMarsico, whom he married Oct. 3, 1959, died Oct. 20, 2003.
He leaves three sons, William R. Marco Jr. of Dalton, John J. Marco of Hudson, Iowa, and Michael Marco of Concord, N.H.; two daughters, Pamela Porter of Pittsfield and Tracy Willard of Turners Falls; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Another daughter, Sandy A. Marco, died in 1973.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for William R. Marco Sr., who died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2006, will be conducted Friday, Nov. 10, at noon at DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, by the Rev. Richard E. Hayes, chaplain for HospiceCare in the Berkshires.
There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Marco may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the funeral home.
