Marcella "Mary" Icardi, 102, of 348 Newell St. died Saturday at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Cessole, province of Asti, Italy, on Dec. 12, 1903, daughter of Sebastian and Adelaide Vittina Nugai, she immigrated to Pittsfield at the age of 5 and attended Pittsfield schools.
Mrs. Icardi was a homemaker for most of her life. At one time, she was employed by the former Tillotson Mill and by General Electric Co.
She was a communicant of All Souls' Church, and enjoyed cooking, baking, crocheting, sewing, knitting and tatting.
She and her husband, Julio Icardi, were married Nov. 14, 1922. He died Oct. 4, 1966.
She leaves a son, Armando A. Icardi of Pittsfield; five grandchildren; 10 great-granchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Marcella "Mary" Icardi, who died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2006, will be Thursday, Sept. 28, at 9 from FLYNN & DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME, 5 Elm St., Pittsfield, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at All Souls' Church celebrated by the Rev. Paul Burns, CSS.
Burial will follow in the family plot in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Pittsfield. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Wednesday, Sept. 27, from 4 to 6. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Elder Services of Berkshire County in care of the funeral home.
She was predeceased by three brothers, Charles, John and Nizio Nugai, and by four sisters, Nellie MacDowell, Teresa Lazzari, Norma Walcott and Margaret Astore.
