Harold F. "Buddy" Hinkley, 82, of 36 Kirkwood Drive died yesterday at home.
Born in Pittsfield on June 30, 1924, son of Russell and Mae Bonney Hinkley, he was a 1941 graduate of Pittsfield High School.
He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II.
Mr. Hinkley was employed as an operator-engineer for David Tierney Jr. Inc., retiring in 1989 after 10 years of service. Before that, he worked for Hutchinson Sand & Gravel for 28 years.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church and of Operators Engineers Local Union.
He enjoyed snowmobiling, going to Saratoga Race Track and working on cars and trucks.
He and his wife, the former Marion S. Carey, would have celebrated their 60th anniversary Thursday, Sept. 28. They were married at First United Methodist Church.
Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Carey L. Hinkley of Stephentown, N.Y.; a brother, Robert Hinkley of Ocala, Fla.; a sister, Marion Fugman of Pittsfield; four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Harold Francis "Buddy" Hinkley, who died Monday, Sept. 25, will be Thursday, Sept. 28, at 11 at DERY FUNERAL HOME on what would have been his 60th wedding anniversary. The Rev. Dr. Luis E. Benavides, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
Calling hours will be tomorrow from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Hinkley may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Berkshire Respite Fund, in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield.
He also leaves four grandchildren, Kevin J. and his wife, Karlyn Hinkley of Pittsfield, Michael R. and his wife, Maureen Hinkley of Dalton, Melanie M. Gorton of Dalton, and Sara B. Hinkley and her significant other, John Barrett of Readsboro, Vt.; four great-grandchildren, Craig, Kelsie and Gabrielle Hinkley, and Ryan Gorton, and nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Raymond and Charles Hinkley, and by a sister, Beatrice Miller. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
