Bernice C. Skiba

Bernice C. Skiba, 93, of Providence Care Center, formerly of Troy, N.Y., died Thursday at Berkshire Medical Center.
She moved to Pittsfield with her daughter, Gina McGovern, and then to the nursing facility.
Born in Troy, N.Y., in 1913, daughter of George and Katherine Potyrala Rice, she attended Troy High School.
Mrs. Skiba was a homemaker.
She was a communicant of the former Holy Trinity Church and of St. Joseph's Church, both in Troy, and a member of the latter's Rosary Society and mother's club.
She was active in the School 12 Parent Teacher Association and enjoyed sewing and traveling.
Her husband, John M. Skiba, is deceased.
Besides her daughter, of Pittsfield, she leaves three sons, John B. Skiba of Brunswick, N.Y., Raymond Skiba of Boston and Edward S. Skiba of Saratoga Springs, N.Y.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Bernice Skiba, who died Thursday, Sept. 7, 2006, will be Wednesday at 9:30 from WILLIAM LEAHY FUNERAL HOME, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 celebrated by the Rev. William Gorman, her nephew and godson.
Interment will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Troy. Memorial contributions may be made to the Residents' Fund of Providence Care Center or to the American Heart Fund, both in care of the funeral home, 336 Third St., Troy, NY 12180. Calling hours at the funeral home will be tomorrow from 4 to 8.
She leaves two daughters-in law, Sandy and Laura Skiba, and a son-in-law, John McGovern. She was predeceased by her sisters, Stella Rice, Frances Esposito, Anne Widzowski and Helene Gorman. She was proud of her Polish heritage and devoted to her family.
