Rebecca Cady Lowell Paquette

September 04, 2006

Rebecca Cady Lowell Paquette, 66, of 57 Apple Tree Lane died Monday morning at her home of pheochromocytoma.

Born in Oneida, N.Y., on Jan. 4, 1940, daughter of Beecher and Clara Leaf Cady, she graduated from Utica Free Academy High School and attended McMurray College in Jacksonville, Ill.

Mrs. Paquette was recently retired from the Pittsfield Generating Co., where she had been the human resources manager for 15 years. Before that, she was a manager for Boston Mutual Insurance. In the 1970s, she was the owner of the Dalton Package Store while working at the District Court of Berkshire County.

Always active in her community, Mrs. Paquette was a two-term moderator for the Town of Dalton, a member of the Pittsfield Rotary Club from 2001 to 2004, the Pittsfield Chamber of Commerce, the YMCA Board of Directors, the United Way, as well as several other civic organizations.

She was active in state and local campaigns, belonged to a local bridge club and to the Austin Healy sports car club. She was also a "Partner in Education" for Allendale school for 15 years and helped to organize many special events.

She and her husband, Gerald E. Paquette, would have celebrated their 10th anniversary this Oct. 5.

Besides her husband, she leaves three sons, James R. Lowell Jr., of Colts Neck, N.J., Dennis M. Lowell of Amherst, N.H., and David C. Lowell of Panama City Beach, Fla.; a daughter, Amy E. Lowell-Warner of Charlotte, N.C.; a brother, George B. Cady of Syracuse, N.Y.; two stepdaughters, Cynthia Begando of Canyon Lake, Calif., and Christine Shield of Orange, Calif.; and 10 grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- A memorial service for Rebecca Cady Lowell Paquette, who died Monday, Sept. 4, 2006, after a long, brave, battle with pheochromocytoma, will be held Friday, Sept. 8, at 11 a.m. at First Congregational Church of Dalton, with the Rev Charles F. Young, chaplain for HospiceCare in the Berkshires, officiating. Memorial hours will be held Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME, Dalton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires or to the Pittsfield Rotary Club Boundless Playground or to both in care of the funeral home, 890 Main St., Dalton, MA 01226. Family was important to her, and as a single mother for many years, she was very important to her family. She adored spending time with her grandchildren.

She also leaves two daughters-in-law, Ruthanne (James) and Marjorie (Dennis); a son-in-law, Robert Warner; a stepson-in-law, Lawrence Shield; ten grandchildren, James R. III and Evan W. Lowell of Colts Neck, N.J., Samuel L., Jacob M., and Sarah C. Lowell of Amherst, N.H., Brad and Lauren Johnson of Canyon Ranch, Calif., and Aubrey and Trinity Shield of Orange, Calif; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a sister, Anne Dowd of Baldwinsville, N.Y. Among her treasured memories at Allendale was when she and a stuffed "piggy" read stories and served ice cream to the children.
