Milton A. Kolodkin, 82, of 340 Red Barn Road died Monday at home following a long illness.
Born in Chattanooga, Tenn., on Feb. 16, 1924, son of Alex M. and Sarah Baron Kolodkin, he attended the local schools there and was a 1940 graduate of Chattanooga High School.
Continuing his education, he received his bachelor's degree from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. He received his master's degree in history from Columbia University.
An Army veteran of World War II, he served from 1943 until 1946. While in the service, he attended the Army Specialized Training Program at Harvard to learn the Chinese language.
He was employed by the Central Berkshire Regional School District as a teacher for 25 years. He retired from Wahconah Regional High School in 1986.
He was an active member of the Knesset Israel Synagogue, serving in many different capacities over the years. He was chairman of the Beautification Committee, chairman of the Program Committee, and had served as head Gabbai. He was also chairman of the Friends Committee of the Berkshire Athenaeum and was responsible for planning various programs.
He and his wife, the former Barbara Silver, were married March 24, 1956, at Temple Anshe Amunim.
Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Alex Kolodkin of Baltimore; a daughter, Sally Kolodkin of Boston; a sister, Carolyn Jackson of Sarasota, Fla.; and two grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Milton A. Kolodkin, who died Monday, Aug. 28, 2006, will be Thursday at noon at Knesset Israel Synagogue with Rabbi David Greenspoon, Spiritual Leader, officiating.
Burial will follow in Knesset Israel Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to the Milton A. Kolodkin Endowment Fund for Adult Education at KI or HospiceCare in The Berkshires in care of DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME, 40 Maplewood Ave., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
The family will be welcoming consolation visits at the family home, 340 Red Barn Road, Dalton, on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.; Friday from 2 to 4 p.m.; and Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Traditional Minyan services will be held on Thursday and Sunday evenings at 7:30 p.m.
He also leaves his grandchildren, Daniel Elias Kolodkin and Talia Elena Kolodkin, and his daughter-in-law, Maria Rodriguez.
