Mary K. Lusignan, 87, of Chestnut Hill Road, Montpelier, Vt., a native and longtime resident of Pittsfield, died Sunday evening at Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin, Vt.
Born in Pittsfield on Oct. 20, 1918, daughter of Michael C. and Anna Deane Kidney, she was a 1935 graduate of Pittsfield High School and received her bachelor's degree from the former North Adams State College, in 1938.
She later earned her master's degree in education from North Adams State College in 1959.
A school teacher, she taught at Egremont Elementary School from 1969 until her retirement in 1979. Prior to that she had taught at the former Pontoosuc Elementary School from 1955 to 1969.
She had made her home in Pittsfield for much of her life and had resided in Lenox from 1979 until moving to Montpelier four years ago.
Mrs. Lusignan had been a communicant of St. Ann's Church in Lenox and was a member of the Massachusetts Retired Teachers Association. She enjoyed traveling and reading.
Her husband, Norman E. Lusignan, whom she married June 14, 1941, died June 23, 1988.
She leaves two sons, Dr. Denis N. Lusignan of Queensbury, N.Y., and David A. Lusignan of Houston; a daughter, Jean L. Commito of Montpelier; and nine grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A funeral for Mary K. Lusignan, who died Sunday, Aug. 27, 2006, will be Friday, Sept. 1 at 9 a.m. from the ROCHE FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Ann's Church, celebrated by the Rev. Christopher J. Waitekus, pastor.
Burial will follow in St. Ann's Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Thursday from 3 to 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Vermont Department of Libraries or the Fisher Center for Alzheimer's Research Foundation in care of the funeral home, 120 Main St., Lenox, MA 01240.
Ms. Lusignan also leaves her grandchildren, with whom she loved spending time, Jonathan, Matthew, Nathan, Nicole, Kimberly and Amy Lusignan, Dr. Kristin Commito and her husband, Paul Fousek, and Sarah and Maura Commito; her daughters-in-law Pamela and Christine Lusignan; and her son-in-law Thomas Commito.
She was predeceased by her brother, Charles Kidney.
