James C. "J.C." Lothridge

James C. "J.C." Lothridge, 64, of Pittsfield, died Saturday at Chenango Memorial Hospital in Norwich, N.Y.

Born in Norwich on Oct. 31, 1941, son of the late Floyd E. and Margaret Christle Lothridge, he graduated from Norwich High School in 1959 and earned his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Clarkson University in 1963.

His career began with General Electric Ordnance Systems in 1963.

In his 39-year career with the Submarine Launched Fleet Ballistic Missile program, Mr. Lothridge worked as a fire control test director in GE Field Engineering at various shipyards and Navy facilities.

He also served as a GE resident representative at Control Data Corporation and Hughes Aircraft Corporation in computer subsystem development. He was instrumental in the successful deployment and operational support of five generations of SLBM nuclear deterrence.

He retired from General Dynamics in 2002 as a lead systems engineer.

Mr. Lothridge enjoyed traveling and sports, and was a fan of the Boston Red Sox.

He leaves a brother, Thomas J. Lothridge of Bainbridge, N.Y.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- A memorial service for James C. Lothridge, who died Saturday, Aug. 5, 2006, will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours. Contributions in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society.

He also leaves his special friend, Linda McGuire Sperry of Norwich, N.Y.; three nephews, William and Renee Lothridge of Chicago, Thomas Lothridge of Auburn, N.Y., and Stephen and Jenny Lothridge of Lisle, N.Y.; his aunt, Mary Tobey of Afton, N.Y., and several cousins, Mary Owens, Dorothy Powers, Sally Mason, Ann Tobey, Irene Zablocki and Alice Morrall.
