Esther B. Peck

Esther B. Peck, 97, of 74 Hinsdale Road, died yesterday at Curtis Manor in Dalton, where she had been a resident since 2004.

Born in Dalton on Feb. 1, 1909, daughter of Rudolf and Agatha Bicknell Brinkmann, she was a 1926 graduate of the former Dalton High School, and a graduate of Simmons College in Boston with a degree in public health nursing and social work.

She did her training at Mass General Hospital.

She was employed in Windsor as a first-, second- and third-grade teacher from 1963 to 1972. Following college, she was employed by the Church Home Society for more than seven years.

She was a member of the Windsor Congregational Church for more than 60 years.

She was also an active volunteer for the Red Cross and the Salvation Army. During World War II, she volunteered for the Red Cross, for which she did social case work in Pittsfield until 1945.

Her husband, Ralph G. Peck, whom she married May 25, 1940, died March 26, 1994.

She leaves a daughter, Marilyn "Marnie" Meyers of Windsor; two sons, R. Brian Peck of Boulder, Colo., and Bruce W. Peck of Windsor; a sister, Sophie Perron of Dalton; a granddaughter, and two great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- A memorial service for Esther Peck, who died Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2006, will be held at the convenience of the family following cremation.

There will be no calling hours. Donations in her memory may be made to the American Cancer Society care of BARTLETT WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 525 Main St., Dalton, MA 01226.
