Claire M. Rooke

Claire M. Rooke, 81, of Rye, N.H., formerly of Lenox, died Tuesday at the Portsmouth (N.H.) Regional Hospital.

Born in Lynn on Nov. 15, 1924, daughter of the late Philias and Irene Gosselin DuBois, she graduated from St. Mary's High School in Lynn with the class of 1943 and attended Tufts Forsyth School of Dental Hygiene in Boston.

She lived in Lenox for more than 40 years before moving to Sentry Hill in York Harbor, Maine, in 2000. Since 2004, she resided at Webster at Rye Health & Retirement Center.

Mrs. Rooke had a long career as a dental hygienist and served in an elected position on the Lenox Board of Health. She also served on the board of directors of the Lenox Council on Aging.

She was a member of the Massachusetts Dental Hygienists Association, a member and past president of the Kiwanian's Berkshire Chapter and served as a SHINE (Serving the Health Information Needs of Elders) counselor for the Massachusetts Department of Elder Services.

She leaves her husband, Frederick Z. Rooke, whom she married Jan. 6, 1946; a daughter, Patricia Theisen of Stratham, N.H.; a sister, Phyllis Wallace of San Clemente, Calif.; two grandchildren, and a great-grandson.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Claire M. Rooke died Tuesday, July 18, 2006. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, July 22, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Theresa Church, 815 Central Road, Rye Beach, N.H. After cremation, a private burial will take place at the Maple Lane Cemetery in Stratham, N.H.

The family requests there be no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association, 9 Cedarwood Drive, Unit 12, Bedford, NH 03110, or the Rainee Webster Foundation, 795 Washington Road, Rye, NH 03870.
