Alice W. Bergan

Alice W. Bergan, 88, of 1395 Massachusetts Ave., Arlington, formerly of Lenox, died Monday in Arlington.

Born in New York City on May 17, 1918, daughter of Frederick J. and Mabel Dickerson Wilson, she was raised in Bronxville, N.Y., and attended schools there.

She lived in Lenox for many years before moving to Arlington in 2002.

Mrs. Bergan worked in New York City as a secretary at the Museum of Modern Art.

She enjoyed art and painting. She took flying lessons, studied dance at Jacob's Pillow and traveled throughout the United States and Mexico.

She was a member of Church on the Hill.

During her later years in Lenox, she volunteered at HospiceCare in the Berkshires, Elder Services, the Council on Aging and Outreach, and at South Congregational Church in Pittsfield.

Her husband, Dr. Carl A. Bergan, died in December 1985.

She leaves a daughter, Laura Bergan of Arlington; four stepdaughters, Louise Bergan of Bronxville, Juliet Emery of Great Barrington, Claire Sagor of Greenfield and Susan Walters of Princeton, N.J.; a stepson, Paul Bergan of Middleburg, Va.; 15 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- A memorial service for Alice Wilson Bergan, who died July 10, 2006, will be held in the fall in Lenox at the Church on the Hill. Donations may be made to Lenox Library or Hospice of the Good Shepherd in Newton, Mass., in care of ROCHE FUNERAL HOME, 120 Main St., Lenox, MA 01240.

Alice's family will always remember her great sense of humor, amusing stories of her youthful escapades and the love and concern she showed to each family member and to her many friends.

Mrs. Bergan also leaves her son-in-law, Victor Rivera, and grandchildren, Sam, Alexa and Gabriela, all of Arlington.
