Stephen J. Hornyak, 69, of 405 Pittsfield Road died Sunday at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Pittsfield on Nov. 20, 1936, son of Stephen and Ethel St. John Hornyak, he was a 1954 graduate of Pittsfield High School.
He served with the Naval Reserve Seabees from 1954 to 1963.
Mr. Hornyak was employed by Hurlbut Paper Co., the predecessor of Mead Corp. (now MeadWestvaco Specialty Papers) in South Lee, as a lab technician, from 1960 until his retirement in 1996. Before that, he worked on his family's farm in Pittsfield.
He enjoyed hunting and attending high school football and baseball games.
He and his wife, the former Karla A. Iorio, were married Oct. 15, 1997.
Besides his wife, he leaves four sons, Michael P. Hornyak of Pittsfield, Joseph K. Hornyak of Peoria, Ariz., James S. Hornyak of Lenox, and Stephen R. Hornyak of Fountain, Colo.; a daughter, Michelle A. Carusotto of Pittsfield; four stepsons, Paul W. Yerrick of Pennsylvania, Mark W. Yerrick of Manchester, Maine, Kevin M. Yerrick of Pittsfield and Brian K. Yerrick of Adams, and 12 grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Stephen J. Hornyak, who died July 2, 2006, will be celebrated tomorrow at 10:30 at KELLY FUNERAL HOME in Lee by the Rev. Bert W. Marshall, pastor of First Congregational Church in Lee.
Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery in Lenox. Visiting hours at the funeral home will be today from 4 to 7. He also leaves his grandchildren, Abriel, Matthew, David, Alex, Ciara, Carl, Kyle, Thomas, Ashley, Jaimie, Makenzie and Kacie.
