Alan R. Millington

Alan R. Millington, 60, of 42 Mountain View Terrace died yesterday at Berkshire Medical Center.

Born June 21, 1946, in London, England, son of Reginald and Peggy Wastell Millington, he attended the Kittridge School in Hinsdale and was a 1964 graduate of Wahconah Regional High School.

A U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War, he served on the aircraft USS Forrestal from 1964 to 1968 before moving back to the area.

Mr. Millington most recently worked at Knesset Israel as the Building supervisor. Prior to that, he worked at the Jewish Federation of the Berkshires, "Helping Hand" home repair and then at Surface Stripping Technologies.

He also worked at GE, where he worked on the transmission for the Bradley Fighting Vehicle from 1974 to 1998, when the GE program was discontinued. Following the military, he worked at Byron Weston Mill for Crane & Co. for several years.

He was a member of the Dalton United Methodist Church, where he served as a trustee.

He was an Eagle Scout and a member of the Dalton American Legion.

He leaves his wife, the former Donna Martyny, whom he married Jan. 13, 1973.

In addition to his wife, he leaves three sons, Adam Millington of Havertown, Pa., Jared Millington of Rockville, Conn., and Matthew Millington of Pittsfield; a sister, Barbara Gallup of Pittsfield, and two grandsons.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral services for Mr. Alan R. Millington, who died Wednesday, June 28, 2006, will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Dalton United Methodist with the Rev. Ed Painter, pastor, officiating.

Burial will be in the Ashuelot Street Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at BARTLETT WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME in Dalton.

Among survivors are his "Best Buddy," Heather Tougas; two grandsons, Reginald and Landon; a daughter-in-law, Jennifer Millington; a sister-in-law, Rosemary Reid; two nieces, Bonnie Manzolini and Darbie DiPietro; five great-nieces, and a great-nephew.

In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to either the Dalton United Methodist Church Roof Fund or the Dalton Ambulance Fund in care of the funeral home, 525 Main St., Dalton, MA 01226.
