Laurel Zelica Thomas-Challenger, 65, of Main Street died Sunday at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield.
Born in Aruba on Nov. 9, 1940, daughter of George and Daisy Caricao Thomas, she attended schools in Aruba.
She moved to St. Croix in 1975 and to Stockbridge in 1985.
Mrs. Thomas-Challenger was a member of the housekeeping staff at the Red Lion Inn for more than 15 years, retiring in 2003.
She was a member of the Church of Reigning Love in Pittsfield but had visited various churches throughout the area over the years.
She enjoyed sewing, crocheting and reading.
She leaves four sons, Eduardo Thomas of Aruba, Elston Thomas of Manchester, N.H., Curtis Challenger of Lenox and Clewiston Challenger of Rockville, Conn.; two daughters, Claudia Challenger and Charmaine Challenger, both of Lenox; a sister, Shirley Learmond of London, and two grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Laurel Zelica Thomas-Challenger, who died June 25, 2006, will be conducted Saturday at 11 at the Church of Reigning Love, 235 East St., Pittsfield, by Pastor Philip Thurmond.
Burial will follow in Stockbridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends Fridayfrom 4 to 7 at FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME in Great Barrington. Memorial contributions may be made to the Laurel Zelica Thomas-Challenger Memorial Fund or to the Church of Reigning Love in Pittsfield through the funeral home, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230.
She leaves two grandchildren, Keeghan and Laci Thomas. Laurel was predeceased by a brother and two sisters. She cherished spending time with friends and family, and especially enjoyed baking and "sharing the word" with those around her.
