Eleanor K. Zdanis, 88, of 78 Lillian St. died Saturday at Hillcrest Commons Nursing Center.
Born in Pittsfield on April 3, 1918, daughter of James and Agnes Murphy Nixon, she was a 1936 graduate of St. Joseph's High School.
Mrs. Zdanis was a homemaker. At one time, she was employed by General Electric Co.
She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church and, for many years, was an active member with her husband, Charles J. Zdanis, of the So-Ed Ballroom Dance Club.
She and her husband were married June 8, 1940. He died Aug. 7, 1998.
She leaves a daughter, Joan P. Sloane of Pittsfield; a son, Bruce Zdanis of Pittsfield; a brother, Paul B. Nixon of Pittsfield; three grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Eleanor K. Zdanis, who died Saturday, June 24, 2006, will be Wednesday at 10:30 from DERY FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 at Sacred Heart Church celebrated by the Rev. James K. Joyce, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 at the funeral home, prior to the service. Mrs. Zdanis leaves three grandchildren, Matthew P. Sloane of Pittsfield, Christopher J. Sloane of Ephrata, Pa., and Paul LaRochelle of Dalton, and two great grandchildren, Andrew and Evan Sloane; her daughter-in-law, Jeanne Zdanis, and her granddaughter-in-law, Debora Sloane.
She was predeceased by a sister, Marelan Larrow, and by two brothers, James Nixon and F. Emmett Nixon. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires, in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
