Harry T. Sayers Sr.

Harry T. Sayers Sr., 81, of 290 Linden St., died Monday at Hillcrest Commons Healthcare Facility, where he lived for more than a year.
Born in Pittsfield on Oct. 6, 1942, son of Myron and Fannie Myers Sayers, he attended local schools.
Mr. Sayers worked for the City of Pittsfield as a driver and a mechanic in the Public Works Department for 30 years, retiring in 1981.
He was a U.S. Army veteran and prisoner of war during World War II, receiving the European, African, Middle East Campaign Ribbon with two service stars, the American Theater Campaign Ribbon and the World War II Victory Medal.
A lifelong resident of Pittsfield, Mr. Sayers enjoyed working on junked cars.
He and his wife, the former Ethel Cameron, were married Aug. 27, 1945, in New Lebanon, N.Y.
He leaves three daughters, Terry Lanpher of Cheshire, Karen Bateman of Pittsfield and Cindy Klein of Tampa, Fla.; 10 sons, Harry T. Sayers II of Hinsdale, Theodore, Michael, Raymond, Russell, Kenneth, Jeffrey, Steven and Ronald Sayers, all of Pittsfield, and Thomas Sayers of Dalton; a brother, Walter Sayers Sr., of Pittsfield; 26 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Harry T. Sayers died in Pittsfield on Monday, June 19, 2006. Funeral services will be Friday morning, June 23, 2006 at 11 a.m. at DWYER FUNERAL HOME, with the Rev. Charles, Young, chaplain of HospiceCare in the Berkshires officiating.
Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Thursday, June 22, 2006 from 4 to 7 p.m..
Mr. Sayers was predeceased by two sisters, Winifred Cameron and Mildred Wixson, and five brothers, Clyde Sayers, Albert Sayers, Henry Sayers, Edward Sayers, and Richard Sayers.
If friends desire, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association in care of the funeral home, 776 North St., Pittsfield, 01201, in his memory.
