Andrew Wowk

Andrew Wowk, 86, of 196 Highland Ave. died at home yesterday.
Born on March 2, 1920, in Pittsfield, son of Ignaz Wowk of Ukraine and Josephine Duplak Wowk of Austria, he was educated in Pittsfield schools and was a graduate of Pittsfield High School.
He worked for Ray Murray Inc. Propane Parts as a warehouse worker for 16 years. Prior to that, he worked at Petroleum Tank Lines in Great Barrington and was a transport driver for 32 years at O'Connell Oil.
He was a baseball umpire for Babe Ruth little league and high school games.
He was a former longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church of Pittsfield.
His wife, the former Edith M. Benson, whom he married April 30, 1942, died Aug. 9, 1996.
He leaves two daughters, Judith D. Tremblay of Pittsfield and Mariellen C. Newport of North Adams; three sisters, Polly Martin and Anna Dubiski, both of Pittsfield, and Ulga Allen of Silver Spring, Md.; three grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
He is predeceased by a son, Gary A. Wowk, who died in 2003.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral services for Andrew Wowk, who died Sunday, June 18, 2006, surrounded by his loving family, will be held on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 220 East St., Pittsfield. Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
Following cremation, burial Will be a Pittsfield Cemetery at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the funeral home, 220 East St., Pittsfield MA 01201.
He also leaves the best bunch of co-workers at Rae-Murray Inc., especially his best friend, Joe Burke. He was predeceased by a sister, Dorothy.
