Thomas D. Sullivan Jr., 73, of 32 Old Stockbridge Road died Tuesday at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Lenox on Nov. 22, 1932, son of Thomas D. and Martha Read Sullivan, he was a 1951 graduate of Lenox High School, where he played basketball and baseball. The Eagler referred to him at the time as "a Lenox High ace and Berkshire County's strikeout king."
A Navy veteran of the Korean War, he served from 1952 to 1955 aboard the USS Columbus as a gunner's mate in the North Atlantic and Mediterranean Sea.
After his return to Berkshire County, Mr. Sullivan played baseball for the Brass Rails and the Stockbridge Rebels. He was signed as a pitcher by the New Iberia Baseball Club of the Evangeline League in Louisiana in 1955-56. He broke his contract in late 1956 to be with his wife during the birth of their daughter.
He was employed by General Electric Co.; Sullivan Brothers, a company he started with his brother, David Sullivan; Cameron Construction in Deland, Fla., and Dodge Construction before starting Sullivan Construction in 1974. He later established Tri-Town Septic and Sullivan Precast Concrete Products. An inventor, his designs included construction equipment attachments and precast concrete forms.
He enjoyed baseball and playing golf.
He and his wife, the former Jeananne Stickles, were married May 23, 1954.
Besides his wife and brother, of Venice, Fla., he leaves a daughter, Kim Burton of Lenox; two sons, Thomas P. Sullivan of Lenox and Timothy A. Sullivan of Wilton, Conn.; two other brothers, Robert Sullivan of Pittsfield and Daniel Sullivan of Lee, and eight grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Mr. Thomas D. Sullivan, who died June 6, 2006, will be Monday, June 12, at 11 at St. Ann's Church in Lenox. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Lenox Babe Ruth League in care of ROCHE FUNERAL HOME, 120 Main St., Lenox, MA 01240.
Mr. Sullivan also leaves his beloved grandchildren, Christopher and Amber Burton, and T. Ryan and Ian Sullivan, all of Lenox, and Alicia, Kayla, Kyle and Liam Sullivan, all of Wilton, Conn., and two daughters-in-law, Linda and Margaret Sullivan.
While serving in the Korean War, he returned home to marry his high school sweetheart, Jeananne Stickles. A devoted husband, he spent his last 10 years at the side of his ailing wife, leaving her only when he became sick himself.
