Peter Marino Sr.

Peter Marino Sr., 73, of 193 Elberon Ave. died Thursday at home after a long illness.

Born in Pittsfield on Oct. 28, 1932, son of Nazzareno and Antonette Garzone Marini, he attended local schools.

An Army veteran of the Korean War, he served with the 2nd Infantry Division, 38th Regiment, in Korea and was a recipient of several campaign medals, including the Bronze Star, the United Nations Service Medal, the Army Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation. He was discharged with the rank of sergeant.

Mr. Marino owned Restoration and Masonry and Tree Work with his son Peter Marino Jr., retiring in 1996 because of ill health. In his youth, he was a lightweight professional boxer for six years.

He was a communicant of St. Mark's Church and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 448 and a charter member of its Color Guard.

He was also a member of Local 423 Laborers Union and of American Legion Post 68.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a fan of the Boston Red Sox.

Besides his son, of Pittsfield, he leaves his former wife, June DiMaleo Marino; three daughters, Cherie Aulisio, Gail Marino and Antoinette Williamson, all of Pittsfield; a sister, Mary Gerber of Glastonbury, Conn., and seven grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Peter Marino Sr., who died in Pittsfield on Thursday, June 8, was the loving grandfather of Michael, Leeanna, Justin, Felica , Anthony, Nick and Jessie. Uncle to Nelson and William. The funeral will be tomorrow, June 10, at 8 from DWYER FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 at St. Mark's Church celebrated by the Rev. John C. Salatino, pastor.

Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be today from 4 to 7. He was predeceased by a sister, Anna Cullen. If friends desire, memorial donations may be made to the Berkshire County division of the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home. He enjoyed singing with and to his grandchildren.
