John S. Sherowski

John S. Sherowski, 95, of 77 Windsor Ave. died Tuesday afternoon at home.

Born in West Rutland, Vt., on April 15, 1911, son of Steve and Bernice Cfgarnic Sherowski, he was a 1929 graduate of West Rutland High School.

He was a resident of Pittsfield for the past 70 years.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving as an airplane repairman at the Navy fields in Brazil and Cuba.

Mr. Sherowski was employed in the power transformer department's load ratio unit of General Electric Co., retiring in 1976 after 40 years of service.

He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church.

He was a member of the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners clubs, and a member of the G.E.A.A. After his retirement, he played golf until the age of 87.

He and his wife, the former Isabelle A. Jankowski, were married Dec. 1, 1945, in West Rutland. She predeceased him on Sept. 1, 1993.

He leaves a daughter, Janice Kay of Housatonic; a son, Gregory Sherowski of Whippany, N.J.; a sister, Stasia Tatko of Granville, N.Y.; six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Mr. John S. Sherowski died in Pittsfield on Tuesday, June 6, 2006. Loving grandfather to Steven, Karen and Kevin, Chris, John and Kimberly. Beloved father-in-law to Susan Sherowski and John Kay. He was the great-grandfather of Alex and Ethan.

Funeral services will be tomorrow, Friday, June 9, from DWYER FUNERAL HOME with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church celebrated by the Rev. Paul Bombardier, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Bridget's Cemetery in Housatonic.

Calling hours will be at the funeral home tomorrow, Friday, June 9, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. If friends desire, donations may be made to HospiceCare in The Berkshires, in care of the funeral home, 776 North St., Pittsfield, MA 01201, in his memory.
