Catherine M. Cushing

Catherine M. Cushing, 82, of Hingham, a native of Lenox Dale, died Monday at Queen Anne Nursing Home in Hingham.

Born in Lenox Dale on March 7, 1924, daughter of Michael and Margaret Loughran Martin, she attended schools in Lenox Dale and Lenox, was a 1941 graduate of Lenox High School, and a 1945 graduate of the College of New Rochelle in New York.

Mrs. Cushing was employed by Lenox High School as a history teacher for several years during the late 1940s and early 1950s.

She was a communicant of St. Vincent de Paul Church in Lenox Dale for many years. While in Hingham, she was a communicant of St. Paul's Church, where she was one of their first Eucharistic Ministers, taught CCD for many years, and was a member of their Memorial Bell Tower Committee.

She was also an active member of the Hingham Catholic Woman's Club.

Mrs. Cushing had been a resident of Hingham for the past forty years.

Her husband of many years, John D. Cushing, died several years ago.

She leaves two daughters, Margaret E. Cushing of Providence, R.I., and Katherine M. Cushing of Hingham; a son, Daniel H. Cushing of Dorchester; a sister, Genevieve Powers of Lenox Dale, and a granddaughter.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral of Mrs. Catherine M. Cushing, who died Monday, June 5, 2006, will be Friday at 10 a.m. from PYNE KEOHANE FUNERAL HOME in Hingham followed by a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Church.

Visiting hours at the funeral home are Thursday from 5 to 9 p.m. Donations in her memory may be made to the Lowes Center for Thoracic Oncology Research in care of Dana Farber Cancer Institute, 44 Binney Street, Boston, MA 02115.

Mrs. Cushing was also the loving grandmother of Emily F. Spura of Hadley. She was predeceased by her sisters, Maureen Sheehan, Sheila Walsh and Frances Leahey, and her brother Alfred Voisin.
