Dorothy D. Smith, 78, of 23 Shetland Drive died yesterday at home.
Born in Pompton Lakes, N.J., on Dec. 28, 1927, daughter of William D. and Dorothy Horton DeLazier, she was a 1945 graduate of Butler (N.J.) High School.
She also attended Hackensack (N.J.) School of Nursing for a year. She moved to Pittsfield 2 1/2 years ago from Butler.
Mrs. Smith worked at one time as a dental assistant to Dr. Arthur Newman in Butler.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Lenox. In New Jersey, she was active with the Girls Scouts of America and a volunteer at Chilton Memorial Hospital in Pompton Plains.
She enjoyed crafting, ceramics and oil painting.
She and her husband, Walter F. "Bud" Smith, celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary April 9. They were married in Butler.
Besides her husband, she leaves two daughters, Donna Lee Smith of Gloucester and Sandra S. Gattasso of Pittsfield, and two grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Calling hours for Dorothy D. Smith, who died Monday, June 5, 2006, surrounded by her loving family, will be held today from 4 to 7 at DERY FUNERAL HOME. The funeral will be Saturday in Butler, N.J. Burial will be in Mount Rest Cemetery, Butler.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires, in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
Mrs. Smith lovingly leaves her two grandchildren, Tiffany and Brad Gattasso, and her son-in-law, Lawrence Gattasso.
