Joseph Codella, 95, of Farmingdale, N.Y. died Monday at North Shore LIJ Hospital in Plainview, N.Y.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Oct. 26, 1910, son of Gaitono and Mary Vitali Codella, he attended schools in Brooklyn and graduated from the General Electric Co. tool-making course in 1940.
He was employed by GE in Pittsfield for 10 years. He later opened East Street Motors, retiring in 1981.
He then moved to Farmingdale, N.Y.
Mr. Codella was a communicant of St. Killian's Church in Farmingdale.
He enjoyed boating, cars, photography, and motorcycling, and was a member of the Greylock Riders Club.
Besides his wife, Gladys, of Farmingdale, he leaves a daughter, Christine Codella, of Safety Harbor, Fla.; a son, Ronald Codella of Pittsfield. His first wife, Angeline Marby, died April 18, 1992.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Joseph Codella died Monday, May 29, 2006. Calling hours are Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9:30 p.m. at MCCOURT FUNERAL HOME, 315 Main St., Farmingdale, N.Y., and Friday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Killian's Church in Farmingdale.
He also leaves a daughter-in-law, Joan, and his beloved grandchildren, Terri Casperson, Lisa Haley, Brenda Toomey, Mike and Lisa Codella, and his great-grandchildren, Sarah, Christifer, Kelsey, Nicki and Casey.
He was predeceased by two sisters, Rose Phillips and Lena Vocarro. He was a bowler, card-player and joke-teller.
