David B. Grunow

David B. Grunow, 45, of 46 Claremont Road died Wednesday at home following a lengthy battle with cancer.

Born in Pittsfield on June 23, 1960, son of Bruce H. and Shirley Fentner Grunow, he was a 1978 graduate of Pittsfield High School.

He attended Berkshire Community College prior to his graduation from the New England Institute in Boston in 1981.

Mr. Grunow was the president and funeral director of Wellington and Bartlett Wellington Funeral Homes, where he started working at age 14.

He was a member of the Mystic Lodge of Masons in Pittsfield and Wahconah Country Club, and treasurer of the Dalton Republican Committee.

An active member with the Dalton Rotary Club, he chaired its annual golf tournament for many years. The club awarded him with the Paul Harris Fellow Award in 2005.

A member of the Dalton Lions Club, he served as its treasurer for many years, chaired the annual Lions Club golf tournament for numerous years, and was awarded the Lions Club Foundation's Melvin Jones Fellow Award in 2004.

Besides his parents of Pittsfield, he leaves his wife, the former Catherine A. Sible, whom he married July 3, 1982; three daughters, Erica C. Grunow, Alyssa C. Grunow and Rebecca E. Grunow, all of Dalton; a sister, Elizabeth A. Miller of Stockbridge, and a brother, Kurt W. Grunow of Pittsfield.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral services for David B. Grunow, who died Wednesday, May 24, 2006, will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at First Congregational Church of Dalton, with the Rev. Robert R. Kyte, pastor, officiating.

Burial will be in Mountainview Cemetery in Lenox. Calling hours will be Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 220 East St., Pittsfield, MA 01201. Donations may be made to either the Dalton Lions Club or HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the funeral home.
