Rose Catherine Mathews

Rose Catherine Mathews, 84, of Greenport, N.Y., a native of Pittsfield, died Sunday at Livingston Hills Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Livingston.

Born in Pittsfield on June 14, 1921, daughter of James and Elizabeth Moynihan Doonan, she graduated from St. Joseph's High School and from the former Berkshire Business College.

She moved to Hudson, N.Y., in 1951.

Mrs. Mathews was employed as a legal secretary by New York Supreme Court Judge John Connor, retiring in 1991. Before that, she was a legal secretary for the law firm of Connor, Curran, Flint and Schram.

She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Hudson and a member of the Columbia Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and the Greenport Historical Society.

She and her husband, Patrick Mathews, were married July 4, 1951.

Besides her husband, she leaves a daughter, Susan Prezioso of Fairport, N.Y.; a son, Shaun Mathews of Simsbury, Conn.; a sister, Mary Helen "Shena" Lambert of Pittsfield, and five grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Calling hours for Rose C. Mathews, who died Sunday, May 21, 2006, will be today, May 23, from 4 to 7 at BATES & ANDERSON-REDMOND & KEELER FUNERAL HOME, 110 Green St., Hudson, N.Y. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 at St. Mary's Church, 429 East Allen St., Hudson.

Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Pittsfield. The family requests that contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Northeastern New York Chapter, 85 Watervliet Ave., Albany, NY 12206.

She also leaves a son-in-law, Anthony; a daughter-in-law, Kathleen; five grandchildren, whom she adored, Kevin, Mathew, Alison, Christopher and Mark; a niece, Elizabeth Hinkley, and a nephew, James Lambert.

She was predeceased by her oldest sister, Margaret "Peggy" Doonan.
