Mary K. Eckart

Mary K. Eckart, 84, of 29 Alden Ave. died Saturday at Springside of Pittsfield, where she had resided for two years.

Born in Pittsfield on Nov. 3, 1921, daughter of John and Delia Hawkins Callaghan, she was a 1941 graduate of Pittsfield High School.

During World War II, Mrs. Eckart was employed by General Electric Co. in the cost accounting office of the power transformer department.

In later years, she was employed by the Pittsfield School Department as a crossing guard for 1 1/2 years and then as a teacher's aide for 12 years.

She retired in 1997.

She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church.

She and her husband, Robert C. Eckart Sr., would have celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary June 6.

They were married in St. Mary's Church.

Besides her husband, she leaves a son, Robert C. Eckart Jr. of Averill Park, N.Y., and two sisters, Dorothy Dunn of Pittsfield and Marge Grady of Leominster.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- A service celebrating the life of Mary K. Eckart, who died Saturday, May 20, 2006, will be held at a later date. She was the beloved mother-in-law of Carrie Eckart. She also leaves several nieces and nephews. She was visited daily in the nursing home by her husband, Bob, and they would have celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary in two weeks.

She was always proud of being referred to as Mrs. "E" by the students at Pittsfield High School. She enjoyed working and interacting with people. She was predeceased by her brothers, Eugene, John and James.
