Woldemar Karl Guttmann, 85, of 225 South Mountain Road died Tuesday at his home.
Born in Kristinowka, Russia, on May 9, 1921, son of Alexander and Alice Tomm Guttman, he attended schools in Latvia.
He served in the German Army Air Force (Luftwaffe) during World War II.
While in Germany, he was employed as a layout man for the DEMAG Co., which was involved with the steel industry. When he came to Pittsfield in 1957, he was employed by Berkshire Bridge & Iron Works for a short time, and later at Sprague Electric for 13 years until his retirement.
Mr. Guttmann was a member of the Zion's Evangelical Lutheran Church.
He was also a member of the German-American Club.
He leaves his wife, the former Charlotte E. Sachs, whom he married May 15, 1945.
Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Silvia Boulger of Pownal, Vt.; a son, Werner Guttmann of Pittsfield; a sister, Irene Wiens of Halle/Saale, Germany; five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral services for Woldemar Karl Guttmann, who died Tuesday, May 16, 2006, will be held Friday, May 19, at 11 a.m. at WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME with the Rev. Dr. Peter Boehringer, pastor of Zion's Evangelical Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will be in the West Stockbridge Cemetery.
There will be no calling hours. Donations may be made to either HospiceCare in the Berkshires or Zion's Evangelical Lutheran Church care of the funeral home, 220 East St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
He leaves his grandchildren, Shawn A. Boulger, Brian K. Boulger, Daniel F. Boulger, Jason E. Boulger, Sarah A. Guttman, and great-grandchildren Logan C. Boulger and Ryan A. Boulger. He also leaves a son-in-law, John and a daughter-in-law, Judy, and several nieces and nephews.
