Edward R. "Cooch" Goodrich, 76, of 17 Sherrill Ave. died Thursday at Berkshire Medical Center.
He was the lead guitarist in the Starliters Band for 25 years.
Born in Watervliet, N.Y., on Feb. 20, 1930, son of Edward N. and Mildred Springer Goodrich, he moved to Pittsfield as a child and was a 1949 graduate of Pittsfield High School.
Mr. Goodrich was employed by General Electric Co. for 44 years, retiring in 1992. He worked in various departments, including power transformer and ordnance as a test man.
His band played at the former French Club for 11 years, and at the former Stanley and West Shore clubs for more than five years each.
He was a member of the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners' clubs and enjoyed playing cards, collecting stamps and coins, and bird watching. He was a ham operator with the handle "Starliter."
He and his wife, the former Gloria Santos, were married July 1, 1950, at St. Mary's Church.
Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Peter Goodrich of North Adams and Michael "Mickey" Goodrich of Pittsfield; a daughter, Diane Goodrich of Cheshire, and five grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Edward R. "Cooch" Goodrich, 76, who died May 11, 2006, will be conducted Tuesday at 10 at DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME by the Rev. Lee Smith, chaplain at Berkshire Medical Center.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be tomorrow from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army in care of the funeral home, 40 Maplewood Ave., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
Papa Cooch also lovingly leaves his grandchildren, Catherine, Daniel, Micaela, Jon Luc and Renée Goodrich.
