Daniel W. Grady, 80, of 27 Rockland Drive died Wednesday afternoon, May 10, at Williamstown Commons, where he had resided for the past 5 weeks.
Born in Pittsfield on Dec. 25, 1925, son of John E. and Catherine Cahill Grady, he graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1943 and was a lifelong resident of Pittsfield.
Mr. Grady was employed by the City of Pittsfield Police Department, retiring as a sergeant in 1984 after 38 years of service.
A veteran of the U.S. Marines during World War II, he fought at Iwo Jima.
He enjoyed woodworking and spending time with his family.
He leaves his wife, the former Claire T. Fischer, whom he married June 16, 1951.
In addition to his wife, of Pittsfield, he leaves a son, John E. Grady of Cummington; two daughters, Mary C. Thorne and Kathryn A. Tassone, both of Pittsfield, and three grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral services for Daniel W. Grady, who died Wednesday, May 10, 2006, will be Monday at 1 p.m. at DWYER FUNERAL HOME, with his cousin, Brother Thomas Grady, OFM, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
Calling hours will be on Saturday at the funeral home from 4 to 7 p.m. Loving grandfather to John D. Grady, and Christopher R. and Daniel M. Tassone; and father-in law to Mark E. Thorne, Ralph C. Tassone and Tracy Grady; several cousins.
He also leaves his beloved cats, Carla and Marla. A brother, John J. Grady, was killed in Aachen, Germany, during World War II. If friends desire, memorial donations may be made to the Eleanor Sonsini Animal Shelter or to the Berkshire Humane Society in care of the funeral home, 776 North St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
