Mitchell Boraski, 90, of Windermere, Fla., formerly of Pittsfield, died May 5 at Health Central Park Nursing Home.
Born Vladimir Borishuk in Evervale, Pa., on Oct. 30, 1915, he was the son of Basil "Charles" and Xenia "Sadie" Wowk Borishuk.
Shortly after he was born, the family name was changed to Boraski and Vladimir to Mitchell. He grew up in the Berkshire Hills and attended schools in Pittsfield.
A World War II Veteran, he was discharged from the Army in 1944.
A mechanical engineer, Mr. Boraski first worked for Crane & Co. in Dalton and then for General Electric. He retired from GE in 1981 after 40 years of service.
Following his retirement, he moved to Florida.
Mr. Boraski was a scratch golfer, enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, good food, animals, traveling and his daily walks.
He was predeceased by his first wife, the former Rita Cullen.
He leaves his wife, the former Elynor Canade Allen; a son, Mitchell William Boraski of Pittsfield; daughter, Pamela Jean Boraski Gould of Windermere; a stepson, Gary Allen of Denver, Colo., and seven grandchildren.
Another son, Mark S. Boraski, died in 1992.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A memorial service for Mitchell Boraski, who died Friday, May 5, 2006, will be held at St. Luke's United Methodist Church, 4851 South Apopka Road, Orlando, Fla., on Wednesday, May 10, at 10 a.m. Memorial donations can be made in lieu of flowers to Health Central Foundation, 10,000 West Colonial Drive, Ocoee, FL 34761.
Mr. Boraski also leaves a daughter-in-law, Lynn Landy Boraski; a son-in-law, John Daniel Gould, and seven grandchildren, Meryn Boraski, C. Mitchell Boraski, Dominic Maffucio Boraski, Heather Shaw, Diedre Allen, Gregory Gould and Matthew Gould.
