Elaine Carver

Elaine Carver, 57, of 795 Main St. died Saturday evening at her home, where she had resided since 1975.

Born in Boston on Sept. 17, 1948, daughter of Mary Civello Serelis and the late Angelo Serelis, she was educated in Boston and Pittsfield schools and was a 1966 graduate of Pittsfield High School.

An employee of the United States Postal Service since 1987, she was a postal clerk in Dalton, where she had been assigned since 1992. Prior to that, she had worked for the postal service in Becket and Hinsdale.

She also had worked at the former Johnnie's Restaurant for thirteen years.

Mrs. Carver was a communicant of St. Agnes' Church.

She was a member and past president of the Dalton American Legion Ladies' Auxiliary since 1972.

She also ran the Bingo games from 1973 to 2002 at the Dalton American Region, and volunteered her time at the Veterans Administration Hospital.

She was a Red Sox fan and enjoyed traveling.

She leaves her husband, George R. Carver, whom she married Feb. 14, 1986.

In addition to her husband, she leaves seven sons, Jeffrey M. Serelis of Lawrenceville, Ga., Mark J. Serelis of St. Petersburg, Fla., Gary D. Bird of Lawrenceville, Ga., Jeremy D. Bird of Dalton, Wayne Carver of Windsor, George Carver of Tucson, Ariz., and Stephen Carver of Strasburg, Va.; a daughter, Sharon Winsett of Pittsfield; two sisters, Marion Serelis of Asheville, N.C. and JoAnne Campbell of Bradenton, Fla.; and 10 grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral services for Elaine Carver, who died Saturday, May 6, 2006, will be held Wednesday, May 10, at 10 a.m. from DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME, with the Rev. Christopher A. Malatesta, pastor of St. Agnes' Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Ashuelot Cemetery.

Calling hours will be today from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mrs. Carver may be made to HospiceCare in The Berkshires in care of the funeral home, 890 East Main St., Dalton, MA 01226.

Mrs. Carver leaves 10 grandchildren, Jacob and Caleb Serelis, Ashleigh and Jennah Bird, Kristin and Matthew Winsett, and Stephanie, Jacob, Haley, and Zachary Carver, and two daughters-in-law, Michelle Serelis and Marie Bird.

She was predeceased by a brother, James E. Serelis, who died in 2003.
