Laura Hoffman

Laura Hoffman, 81, of 750 South Pennington Drive, Chandler, Ariz., formerly of 62 Putnam Ave., died Thursday at home.

Born in North Adams on July 6, 1924, daughter of William and Laura Lefave Shea, she was a 1941 graduate of Pittsfield High School and a graduate of the former Pittsfield Secretarial School.

She moved to Arizona in 1986.

Mrs. Hoffman was employed as assistant accountant at Berkshire Housing Services Inc., retiring in August 1986.

Before that, she was secretary to the president of Pittsfield National Bank and also worked at Union Federal Savings & Loan Association.

She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church.

She and her husband, James W. Hoffman, were married Jan. 8, 1949. He died Dec. 21, 2001.

She leaves four daughters, Laurie Delaney of Sun Lakes, Ariz., Mary Hoffman-Wilkins and Susan Hoffman-Watts, both of Chandler, and Martha Hoffman of Medford; a son, J. Christian Hoffman of Stoughton; six step-grandchildren, and seven step-great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- A funeral Mass and burial for Laura Shea Hoffman, who died Thursday, April 27, 2006, will be held in Phoenix. If desired, donations in her name may be made to Room to Grow, an organization dedicated to families and geared toward helping parents with few material goods take care of their children while helping them to bond and to develop a relationship.

Her family has selected Room to Grow because its goals celebrate her life, priorities and devotions. Donations may be sent to Room to Grow, 142 Berkley St., Boston, MA 02116, (617) 859-4545.

She also leaves a daughter-in-law, Kira Scanlan Hoffman; three sons-in-law, Thomas Delaney, Phillip Wilkins and David Watts; a grandson who is expected to be born in July; four sisters-in-law, all in the Pittsfield area, Jean Shea, Mary Hoffman, Ann Ryan and Claire Volin, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her brother, William Shea.
