Peter M. Mela, 64, of McNally Road, Old Orchard Beach, Maine, formerly of Pittsfield, died Saturday at home.
Born in Pittsfield on Nov. 30, 1941, son of Harold G. and Jane Hall Mela, he was educated in Pittsfield schools.
He graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1959, Bentley School of Accounting and Finance in 1964 and received his master's degree in accounting from Amos Tuck School at Dartmouth College in 1969.
While residing in the Boston area, Mr. Mela was a partner in the accounting firm of Tonneson, Mela, Curtin and Co. After moving to Maine in 1983, he was a self-employed certified public accountant and owned and operated B-Dry System of Maine and New Hampshire.
He enjoyed sports, harness racing and playing golf and had owned several race horses.
His first wife, the former Jeanne Gobielle of Adams, died in 1983.
He and his wife, the former Diane Chretien, were married at St. Margaret's Church in Old Orchard Beach on June 14, 1986
Besides his wife, he leaves a stepdaughter, Karen Hall of Biddeford, Maine; a stepson, Jon Hall of Biddeford; a sister, JoAnne Lane of Lenox, and six step-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a stepson, Scott Hall, in 2003.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Peter M. Mela, who died Saturday, April 29, 2006, will be Wednesday, May 3, at 1 at Cathedral Pines Funeral Home, 156 Saco Ave., Old Orchard Beach, ME 04064. Visiting hours will be tomorrow evening from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.
Donations in Peter's memory may be made to the American Heart Association, Northeast Affiliate, 343 Gorham Road, South Portland, ME 04106, or to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 1130, Fairfax, VA 22038.
He also leaves a brother-in-law, David Lane of Lenox; his stepdaughter's husband, Ernie Scott, and his stepson's fiancée, Margaret Welch, both of Biddeford; six step-grandchildren with whom he enjoyed spending time, Bridget and Ethan Scott, Brooklynn and Blake Hall and their mother, Bobbie-Jo Senter, and Benjamin and Isabella Hall; two nephews, Michael and Andrew Lane; a niece, Kimberly Lane Herman, and a great-niece, Sophie Jane Herman.
