Roland Gerald "Frenchie" Meunier

Roland Gerald "Frenchie" Meunier, 89, of 40 Marcella Way for the past year and formerly of 12 State Road in Pittsfield for 23 years, died Tuesday afternoon at Berkshire Medical Center.
He also lived at 131 Crane Ave. for many years.
Born in Holyoke on May 5, 1916, son of Hector J. and Odile S. Jean Meunier, he was a 1935 graduate of Springfield Technical High School, and a 1940 graduate of the General Electric Co. Draftsmen Apprenticeship course.
A World War II veteran, Mr. Meunier served as seaman first class in the Navy from Dec. 18, 1944, to Oct. 19, 1945.
During the early 1930s, he was a member of the 1171st Citizens Civilian Corps camp at North Adams, and he won the first Massachusetts State College Scholarship ever awarded to a member of the Citizens Civilian Corps.
Mr. Meunier was employed by GE for 42 years, retiring as a plant engineer in 1980.
He was a communicant of St. Agnes' Church where he served as a lector, sang in the choir, taught CCD and volunteered for Catholic Charities. He was a lifetime and honorary member of the Knights of Columbus.
He was a member of the Dalton Council on Aging and the Dalton Senior Center, GE Quarter Century and Pensioners' clubs, and the GE Athletic Association.
Mr. Meunier was a member of American Legion Post 155 and held the distinction of oldest living member. An outdoorsman, he enjoyed gardening, fishing and camping.
His wife, the former Claire C. Bradley, whom he married July 29, 1939, in St. Mary's Church in Pittsfield, died March 15, 2003.
He leaves four sons, Peter A. Meunier of Hinsdale, John R. Meunier of Liverpool, N.Y., James Meunier of Richmond, Va., and Mark G. Meunier of Dalton, with whom he resided for the past year; six daughters, Claire C. Brown of Tampa, Fla., Ann N. Pariselli of Pittsfield, Margaret M. McMahon of Richmond, Mary Lou Musacchio of Cheshire, Ellen T. Meunier of Pittsfield, and Catherine M. Grady of Dalton; a brother, Hector A. Meunier of Ludlow; 29 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Paul F. Meunier, in 2003.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral services for Roland Gerald "Frenchie" Meunier, who died Tuesday, April 25, 2006, will be Saturday, April 29, at 9:15 a.m. from DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Agnes' Church celebrated by the Rev. Christopher A. Malatesta, pastor.
Burial will be at the convenience of the family at St. Mary's Cemetery in Lee. Calling hours will be Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Meunier may be made to St. Agnes' School Development Fund in care of the funeral home at 890 East Main St., Dalton.
Mr. Meunier leaves his daughters-in-law, Mary Ellen, Betsy, Nancy, Kathy and Chris, whom, with her husband, Mark, provided loving care. He also leaves his sons-in-law, Walt Brown, Martyn McMahon and John Grady. He was predeceased by two brothers, four sisters, four grandchildren, and a son-in-law.
