Barbara Griffin, 91, of California Avenue, died Wednesday morning at Berkshire Medical Center.
Mrs. Griffin had been a longtime resident of Stockbridge before moving to Pittsfield in 1978.
Born in Stockbridge on July 2, 1914, daughter of Chauncey West and Grace Anna Smith Hakes, she attended local schools and was a graduate of the former Williams High School in Stockbridge.
Mrs. Griffin was employed by the Mount Greylock State Reservation for many years, retiring in the 1980s. She also was employed by the former England Brothers Department Store on North Street in Pittsfield. Previously, she worked at the Marian Fathers and the Stockbridge Library.
She attended the Stockbridge Congregational Church. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and of the Berkshire Family History Association.
She spent countless hours researching genealogy, enjoyed knitting and loved animals.
She and her husband, Earl Lawrence Griffin, were married May 1, 1937. He died in December 1960.
She leaves two nieces.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A graveside service celebrating the life of the late Barbara Griffin, who died Wednesday, April 19, 2006, will be held on Friday, April 21, at 2 p.m. at the Southlawn Cemetery in Williamstown, conducted by the Rev. Burt Marshall, pastor.

She leaves two nieces, Patricia Fadding and her husband Russell of Glendale; along with Doris Schulz and her husband Frank of Tampa, Fla.; she also leaves her grand-nephews Marc and Steven Fadding, along with Michael and Scott Schulz, her cousin Charles Hakes of Berlin, N.Y., and her beloved cat, Patches. She was predeceased by a brother, Ivan Hakes.
