Rosemarie Sumner, 73, formerly of 600 Main St., died Saturday at Berkshire Medical Center.
She had resided at Hillcrest Commons in Pittsfield since July 2005.
Born in Pittsfield on Jan. 23, 1933, daughter of Albert H. Phillips Sr. and Marion Orten Phillips, she attended Dalton schools and was a 1951 graduate of the former LeBaron Hairdressing Academy of Pittsfield and Perkins Institute for the Blind in Watertown.
She attended Berkshire Community College during the 1980s.
Mrs. Sumner was employed as a beautician at various area salons for several years. She also worked as a waitress at local restaurants, including the former Sugar Bowl on the corner of North and Melville streets. She retired several years ago.
She volunteered for many years for the Berkshire Benevolent Association for the Blind, as a coordinator for the Battered Women's Hot Line, and with the Lions' Clubs in Dalton and Pittsfield.
She enjoyed playing cards.
She leaves two daughters, Donna Marie Sorensen of Hinsdale and Amber Sumner of Pittsfield.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Rosemarie Phillips Sumner, who died April 15, 2006, will be conducted Friday at 11 at DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield by the Rev. William D. Furey, pastor of Berkshire Union Chapel.
Burial will follow in Ashuelot Street Cemetery in Dalton. Calling hours at the funeral home will be tomorrow, April 20, from 5 to 7 and Friday from 10 until the time of the funeral.
Memorial donations may be made to the Berkshire Benevolent Association for the Blind in care of the funeral home, 40 Maplewood Ave., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
She is also survived by her loving friends Victor Provost and Eric Bremenkamp.
