Edith M. Kowalczyk, 82, of 192 Dalton Division Road died Friday at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Pittsfield on March 12, 1924, daughter of Joseph and Frances Leab Latimer, she attended local schools and the former LeBaron Hairdressing Academy.
Mrs. Kowalczyk was a hairdresser at the former England's department store for 15 years, retiring in 1981.
She enjoyed politics, gardening, bowling and going to casinos, and was a fan of the Boston Red Sox.
She and her husband, Joseph W. Kowalczyk Sr., were married July 5, 1948.
Besides her husband, she leaves two sons, Joseph W. Kowalczyk Jr. of Suffield, Conn., and David L. Kowalczyk of Hinsdale; three sisters, Beatrice Boucher of New Britain, Conn., and Louise VanLoon and Ruth Nagelschmidt, both of Pittsfield, and five grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Private graveside services for Edith M. Kowalczyk, who died April 14, 2006, will be conducted Tuesday, April 18, 2006, at Pittsfield Cemetery by the Rev. Peter A. Gregory, pastor of St. Charles' Church.
There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of FLYNN & DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME, 5 Elm St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
She leaves five grandchildren, Joseph W. Kowalczyk III, and Matthew, Timothy, Madelyn and Allison Kowalczyk, and two daughters-in-law, Kathleen and Wendy Kowalczyk.
She was predeceased by a brother, Ralph Latimer, and by a sister, Evelyn O'Rourke. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
