Catherine M. Dunsmore, 63, of 26 Lowden St. died Thursday at Albany (N.Y.) Medical Center from complications due to an aneurysm.
Born in Pittsfield on Sept. 12, 1942, daughter of the late James E. and Catherine Flynn McGill, she graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1960 and from the former St. Luke's School of Nursing in 1964.
Ms. Dunsmore was a charge nurse on the night shift in the emergency department at Berkshire Medical Center for nearly 40 years. Before that, she was head nurse at the former St. Luke's Hospital.
She was a communicant of St. Teresa's Church and a member of the Massachusetts Nurses Association and the St. Luke's Alumnae Association.
She leaves two brothers, James McGill of Westwood and Thomas McGill of Pittsfield.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Catherine M. McGill Dunsmore, who died Thursday, April 13, 2006, will be Wednesday at 9:15 from DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at St. Teresa's Church celebrated by her cousin, the Rev. Michael Duffy, OFM, of Philadelphia.
Calling hours will be tomorrow, April 18, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. Besides her cousin, she leaves two sisters-in-law, Kathleen McGill of Westwood and Nancy McGill of Pittsfield; five nieces, Kathleen James, Maura Mudd, Eileen Fox, Siobhan Abell and Ciarna DiPlacido; two nephews, Christopher and Owen McGill, and grandnieces and grandnephews.
Shopping for their Christmas presents was a never-ending joy for her. She was a nurse who loved her profession; she ministered to the sick and injured with great care, love and compassion.
