Thomas Aquinas Kane

Thomas Aquinas Kane, 90, of 235 Walker St., died Wednesday afternoon at Kimball Farms Nursing Care center, where he had been a patient for the past fifteen months.

Born in Lenox on March 7, 1916, son of John and Susan Hogan Kane, he attended Lenox schools and was a 1935 graduate of Lenox High School.

A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he served with the First Army in campaigns at Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Central Europe, and the Rhineland and was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant on Dec. 3, 1945.

He was employed by General Electric Co. in Pittsfield as a production coordinator in its main plant for more than 40 years, retiring in 1980. He also worked as special police officer of the Lenox Police Department for many years and was a desk clerk and night watchman at Eastover Resort.

Me. Kane was a lifelong communicant of St. Ann's Church.

For many years he was a member of the Lenox Police Association, the Men's Pool League at the Lenox Community Center and was a fan of the New York Yankees.

He and his wife, the former Mary Elizabeth Byrne Hurley, were married Sept. 6, 1947, in St. Ann's Church. She died March 13, 1995.

He leaves three daughters, Mary Sue Rupp of Morgan Hill, Calif., Kathleen M. Naylor of Housatonic, and Maureen A. Borgnis of Washington; a son, Timothy P. Kane of Lenox; a stepson, Dennis E. Hurley of Pittsfield, and 10 grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Thomas A. Kane, who died Wednesday, April 12, 2006, will be Saturday, April 15, at 9:15 a.m., from ROCHE FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Liturgy of the Word service at St. Ann's Church at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Christopher J. Waitekus, pastor, officiating.

Burial with military honors will follow in St. Ann's Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. Mr. Kane is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, Michael and Matthew Rupp, Meghan and Erin Naylor, Thomas, Peter, and Catherine Borgnis, and Carolyn, Jeffrey, and Amy Kane, his sons-in-law Charle Rupp, Peter Naylor, and Peter Borgnis, and his daughter-in-law Lisa Kelly Kane.

He was predeceased by his six brothers, Francis, Williams, Vincent, James, Joseph, and Edward. He also leaves his dear friends and staff at Kimball Farms Nursing Care Center. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make donations in his memory to the Lee Regional Visiting Nurses Association or the Lenox Police Association, both in care of the funeral home, 120 Main St., Lenox, Ma 01240.
