Shirley M. Hamilton, 78, of Hillcrest Commons, formerly of 107 Robbins Ave., died Thursday at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in New Haven, Conn., on March 28, 1928, daughter of Claudius and Edith Hamilton Nolan, she moved to Pittsfield as a child and was educated in local schools.
Mrs. Hamilton was employed as a private-duty home health aide and, previously, worked as a nurses' aide at Berkshire Place. She also was an arts and crafts teacher at Early Childhood Development.
She served as a foster parent.
She was a member of Second Congregational Church, serving on the diaconate and as a Sunday school teacher.
She was also a member of its Flower Club.
She was active at the Christian Center, serving as a member of the Golden Leaves Club, the Women's Auxiliary and the Women's Scholarship Committee, and volunteered at the Neighborhood Health Center for many years.
Her husband, Randolph Hamilton Sr., whom she married Oct. 19, 1946, died July 3, 1994.
She leaves three daughters, Cheryl Nolan-Wallah, Marilyn L. Hamilton and Wendy L. Hamilton, all of Pittsfield; four sons, Randolph Hamilton Jr. of Pittsfield, Robert H. Hamilton of Carson, Calif., Roger A. Hamilton of Canaan, N.Y., and Rodney C. Hamilton of Springfield, Mo.; a sister, Beverly Edmonds of Pittsfield; 20 grandchildren, and 25 great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Shirley M. Hamilton, who died Thursday, March 30, 2006, also leaves a son-in-law, Braimah Wallah, and a daughter-in-law, Sandy (Mrs. Robert) Hamilton.
She was predeceased by a brother, Robert Nolan; a sister, Eleanor Williams; a sister-in-law, Annie Gadson; a grandson, Damion Hamilton, and two nephews, Brett Jackson and Tyrone Gadson. She also leaves several foster children, and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Services will be conducted Monday, April 3, at noon at Second Congregational Church, 50 Onota St., Pittsfield, by the Rev. Leonard C. Comithier, the Rev. Willard H. Durant and the Rev. Charles E. Pratt.
Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours will be Monday, beginning at 11 at the Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mrs. Hamilton may be made to the Children's Program at the Christian Center, in care of DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
