Dorothy A. Barrett

Dorothy A. Barrett, 68, of 87 Joseph Drive died Monday at her home.

Born in Bronxville, N.Y., on July 22, 1937, daughter of the late William and Alfreta Burton Blackie, she attended East Chester schools and graduated from East Chester High School in East Chester, N.Y., in 1955.

She also graduated from St. Joseph's School of Nursing in Yonkers, N.Y., in 1957 as a Licensed Practical Nurse.

She was employed by the United States Census Bureau for 10 years, retiring in 2004. Previously, she was employed by several hospitals in New York, Hawaii, Connecticut and Virginia.

She moved to Pittsfield in 1977 from Waterford, Conn. She was a New York Yankees fan and enjoyed going to the Foxwoods Casino in Connecticut.

Her husband, Ronald Barrett, whom she married on Aug. 31, 1957, in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Scarsdale, N.Y., died Dec. 30, 2004.

Mrs. Barrett leaves four daughters, Nancy J. Gallagher of Pittsburgh, Pa., Patricia B. Jubell of Honolulu, Hawaii, Barbara L. LaPierre of Pittsfield and Jennifer L. LaFond of Norfolk; a brother, John Blackie of North Lillian, Al.; a sister, Jean Skipper of Kinderhook, N.Y., and nine grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral services for Dorothy A. Barrett, who died Monday, March 27, 2006, will take place Friday, March 31, at 8:30 a.m. from FLYNN & DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. at Mount Carmel Church, with the Rev. Geoffrey J. Deeker, C. S. S., pastor, officiating.

Burial will take place at 2 p.m. in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Agawam. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Thursday, March 30, from 5 to 8 p.m. Mrs. Barrett leaves nine grandchildren, John, Maeve, Keegan and Brenna Gallagher, Alexander Jubell, Nichole and Ryan LaPierre, Olivia and Isabel LaFond, and four sons-in-law, William Gallagher, Peter Jubell, Michael LaPierre and John LaFond.

She was predeceased by a brother, William Blackie, and by a sister, Emma Schmelling. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires, in care of the funeral home, 5 Elm St, Pittsfield, MA 01201.
