William B. Lutz

William B. Lutz, 106, formerly of Epoch at Melbourne Place and 117 Jason St., died Sunday at Providence Care Center in Lenox.

He owned the former Lutz Jewelry Store at 50 South St. from 1944 until retiring in 1961.

Born in Evans City, Pa., on June 22, 1899, son of Edward and Nancy Garvin Lutz, he attended schools there.

He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War I.

Mr. Lutz was employed as an oil well driller with his father, as a street car conductor and as a salesman for Seth Thomas Clock Co. in Thomaston, Conn.

He also worked at a jewelry store in Pittsburgh.

He was a member of Zion's Evangelical Lutheran Church, a life member of Harmony Lodge AF & AM in Velienople, Pa., and a member of the Rotary Club of Pittsfield.

He was also a member of the Country Club of Pittsfield and Pontoosuc Country Club. He played golf until age 98 and drove until the age of 101. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, baseball and tennis.

He and his wife, the former Mary C. Wahl, were married June 22, 1921. She died Dec. 29, 1994.

He leaves two daughters, Dorris L. Volk of Lenox and Jean Frame of East Otis; nine grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- A private memorial service for William B. Lutz will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours. Burial will be in Pittsfield Cemetery.

Among survivors are his grandchildren, Cheryl (Jonathan) Pease, Diane (Patrick) O'Reilly, Deborah (Arthur) Robbins, Sally (George) Ducach, Randall (Jennifer) Volk, Marc (Wendi) Volk, Paula (Paul) Terkelsen, Wendy (David) Lane and Eric Volk, and many nieces and nephews.
