Laurence E. Fairfield

Laurence E. Fairfield, 89, of Kimball Farms, Lenox, formerly of Lenox Road, died Saturday at Berkshire Medical Center after a short illness.
Mr. Fairfield served on the Richmond School Facilities Committee in 1957 and the School Building Committee in 1958 and 1959.
He was a selectman from 1960 to 1963, on the Planning Board from 1965 to 1975 and on the Finance Committee from 1967 to 1992.
Born in West Stockbridge on June 8, 1916, son of Jesse and May Loveland Fairfield, he graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1933 and from the General Electric Co. apprentice course in 1937.
Mr. Fairfield was employed by GE for 40 years, retiring as manager of the high voltage laboratory model shop, retiring in July 1976. After retiring, he was a consultant to the manager of the tool room.
He was the first recipient of Richmond's Charles and Mary Kusik Citizenship Award, in 1992.
He enjoyed sailing and gardening.
His wife, the former Marion Alderman, whom he married July 29, 1936, died May 29, 1999.
He leaves two daughters, Debbie McCaleb of Fairplay, Colo., and Candace Mountain of Richmond; three grandchildren, and a great-grandchild.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Graveside services for Laurence E. Fairfield, who died Saturday, March 25, 2006, will be conducted Wednesday at 11 at Center Cemetery in Richmond by the Rev. Irene Jones, pastor.
Those who wish to attend are asked to meet inside the cemetery at 10:45. WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Friends of Richmond Free Public Library Buildng Fund, 2821 State Road, Richmond, MA 01254.
Mr. Fairfield also leaves three grandchildren, Jay Miller, Kim Ward and Andrea Mountain, and a great-grandchild, Miranda Ward. He enjoyed visiting with his family.
